Oktoberfest gathering celebrates Waukesha County communities

More than 150 people attended Oktoberfest, Aurora Health Care Foundation’s fun, festive, fall community outreach event at Weissgerber’s Golden Mast on October 11.

Guests listened to live German music by Marv Wunder and The Wunder-Bars, tasted German delicacies, and participated in a raffle, games, and beer and wine tasting.

Special guest speaker, Dr. Thomas Derrig, Medical Chief of Staff at Aurora Medical Center in Summit, provided an important Minutes Matter message regarding traumatic injuries and critical trauma care. Traumatic injury is the 4th leading cause of death for all ages and the leading cause of death for people under the age of 45.

Aurora Medical Center in Summit is currently functioning as a Level II Trauma Center with expectations to receive full verification in the spring 2013.

Abby Kelly experienced Aurora’s Level II Trauma Care firsthand when a fall from a horse sent her to Aurora Medical Center in Summit’s Emergency Department with critical spleen and kidney injuries.

She shared with guests, “When you hear about serious injuries you have this idea of what it would be like if it happened to you. Well, now I know, because it did happen to me. And I have to say that aside from the pain it wasn’t that bad. I think it was because of the great nurses and doctors who took care of me.”

Funds raised from the raffle and game will be directed to the Aurora Medical Center in Summit Trauma Fund for education and prevention programs in the community.
