Founders of the Annual McGMO Golfing for Cancer Care event received nearly $109,000 to support patients at the Aurora Cancer Care – Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. The Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation presented the check during their annual recognition breakfast on May 1, 2014. The check included matching funds from Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation and proceeds raised by golfers who participated in last year’s 16th Annual McGMO Golfing for Cancer Care.
The McGMO was established in 1998 in memory of Dean McGregor, Ivan Grover, and Calvin Monroe, who lost their battles with cancer and Kim O’Keefe, a courageous cancer survivor. The event raises funds to help cancer patients throughout Walworth County and surrounding communities by enhancing patient services, and investing in new technology for cancer care at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center.
“Each year, our goal is to raise the bar and increase the proceeds of the outing so that even more people with cancer will benefit from the generosity of participants and sponsors. Cancer impacts everyone and it’s important to receive world-class treatment close to home,” said Mike Grover, one of the founding members of the McGMO. “The 17th Annual McGMO event is on July 25, 2014 and proceeds from the golf outing will be directed toward a cancer rehabilitation program. The goal is to help cancer survivors achieve optimal health and wellness by overcoming long term effects of cancer.”
