Earlier this school year, Aurora Family Service celebrated their annual “Neighborhood Block Party” in partnership with United Way of Greater Milwaukee’s “Season of Caring.” Sun Products and Caterpillar donated school supplies for 250 students, while Playworks provided creative outdoor activities. Guests also enjoyed free haircuts, a game of Bingo and complimentary hot dogs, fresh off the grill.
The Milwaukee Fire Department stopped by for a visit and a live musical act entertained the crowd. One enthusiastic, young participant exclaimed, “Today is fun because I can get some food and play games. I’m happy that now I get to go to school with new school supplies!”
Aurora Family Service provides a multitude of programs that are designed to help families live well, including parenting education and support, mental health services, comprehensive services for the elderly, and financial counseling. “This day is so great because it gives our neighbors a chance to gather and connect with us. They can learn about our programs in a fun and relaxed atmosphere,” said Jane Pirsig, Executive Director of Aurora Family Service.
Aurora Family Service is committed to building strong families and offering services that benefit those in need. Debra, a participant in the day’s festivities remarked, “To me, this gathering means that everyone can come together. Those in need can receive help. This event brings the community together.”
