You did it for Lola, and you can do it again!

It’s already November and that means the holidays are upon us. But Aurora Family Service knows not every family can afford a full Thanksgiving meal. In fact in 2013, thanks to donors like you, they handed out over 3,100 Thanksgiving meals complete with a turkey and all the trimmings!

But the true beauty of that isn’t the number, it’s the families whom that number represents. Families like Lola and her grandson Jonathan. After Lola’s pension kept getting cut, her daughter-in-law began buying groceries for her. Then, her daughter-in-law learned about the Aurora Family Service Family to Family Thanksgiving program and encouraged her to sign up.

“Thanksgiving means so much to me because my family came over on the Mayflower,” Lola told us. “They came to this country so they could have religion – and that is important to me.” Lola was so grateful to share that Thanksgiving meal with Jonathan, who saved her when she went into diabetic shock. “He saved my life,” Lola said.

Lola and Jonathan and so many other families thank you for the gift of a Thanksgiving at home with their loved ones. A $35 donation provides a family with a 12-pound turkey, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, bread and butter, vegetables and other traditional favorites.
